We are delighted to announce that a new mural is now gracing the Lion Walk Shopping Centre in Colchester.
Created by local artist and children’s book illustrator, Tom Knight, the piece entitled “Colchester” draws inspiration from the place itself and the people and stories of the city’s past and present. Perfectly placed in the large ceiling space connecting Red Lion Yard to Lion Walk, the finished mural creates a vibrant and thought-provoking central point for visitors of all ages to enjoy.
Artist Tom Knight describes his work saying, “The design for Lion Walk is primarily intended to create a feeling of joy and optimism. It’s an expression of hope, looking to the future whilst leaning on the strong bedrock of our heritage and the important historical context of Colchester, its people and places.”
The artwork, which was unveiled by the Mayor of Colchester, was commissioned by Lion Walk Shopping Centre with the support of Our Colchester BID Recovery Fund, and managed and delivered by us here at Art Eat Events.
The project is seen as a great chance to encourage footfall to the city centre, educate people and celebrate the county’s creative talent.
Make sure to head on over to Lion Walk Shopping Centre for a peek at the mural!
